Prescribing as part of Shared Care

This practice supports complex medication prescribing in an arrangement called Shared Care.

This often applies to long term conditions, such as ADHD treatment, arthritis or gender dysphoria.

As part of our commitment to our patients, this practice supports Shared Care arrangements where it is safe to do so.

The following will apply to all patients under Shared Care arrangements:

  • The Consultant is UK based, registered with CQC and of good standing, follows National and local guidance such as NICE and Knowledge Now.
  • Prescribing is in line with locally approved formularies.
  • Prescribing under Shared Care applies only when the medication is stable.
  • Titration and alternatives are the responsibility of the Consultant.
  • All patients must undergo at least an annual review.
  • Arrangement and the interpretation of investigations such as blood results is the responsibility of the consultant.

Patients must be prepared that if they are using a non-NHS service, that Consultant may charge fees for an annual review and some appointments and that patients must budget for this accordingly. St Stephens Gate does not benefit from these charges, but we will only prescribe with an annual review.
